My Sketch Book

The artists in my eBay group forum EHAG (Eclectic Halloween Artists Group) were having an interesting discussion about sketch books the other day. The discussion thread asked which artists in our group used them and why.

I jumped in with a resounding YES I use them! I thought it would be FUN to share a page from my sketch book "vault" here.

What I like about using a sketch book is it becomes a journal of creative ideas. For me with my art it's all about the "idea" of the piece. I have so many random swirling ideas from time to time that instead of losing them, I record them in my sketch book. I have designs from 2007 that have yet to be revealed. It's also fun to compare completed pieces with my original designs. Some turn out close to the original sketch design or my "mind's eye." Others veer very differently from the original concept. Interesting.

With my art, I find it takes on a life of it's own and is a journey (or adventure) till completion. Sometimes the art feels like a rebellious child that won't take a nap when I want him/her to!

This is how it all begins! Enjoy! :-)

PS: Some of my old designs are hassling me for their debut...SO I had better get back to work! Hehe '-)

OK I am officially 'Green' with Envy... Oh how I admire an artist who is so organized in idea and design....not to mention the ability to draw wonderfully their concepts and designs...
Mine tend to look like a 'Mad Hen' had her way with a scrape of paper I had laying around...
I must admit this is a grand idea to post this... maybe we should each post a page from our scribbles...hell, I'm game...and if I am ANYONE should be...lol

Chris, your sketchbook is so much more than random scribbles...which is exactly what many of my pages are!! Love that you showed us a page with all the little labels and notes and yet is so finished...you work your sketches like your beautiful pieces. I bet your entire sketchbook looks like this, doesn't it?!! WOW

Have a great weekend big guy!!

"Escape from he Pumpkin Patch" a FAV for sure!

Thanks for sharing a look behind the scenes!

Like you, I too have many "scribbles" (mine are surely scribbles compared to yours) in my sketch book yet to be released :-} When I started taking my book with me everywhere the pages filled up quickly. Some day maybe I'll let everyone take a little peek at my book.....maybe. LOL!
