Vacation Pictures (Part 2) ~ Luray Caverns

Welcome to the 2nd portion of my vacation @ the magical "Luray Caverns" in Virginia. WOW ~ This was by far my favorite day trip last week. I could not even wrap my head around the fact these natural wonders are thousands of years old. We were informed that the stalactite formations grow 1 inch every 100 years. The air was so pure and cool underground.

Note: The 2nd picture below shows the reflections of the above formations in a very still pool of water underneath. An interesting optical illusion in person...it appears the formations are growing up from the floor beneath. Until you realize water is there in very slight ripples.

One of the coolest places (literally) I have ever visited! Enjoy :-)

Hi Chris,
thanks for stopping by... I see you've been cave dwelling, exciting! They look similar to Carlsbad Caverns which I went deep into a few years back, lots of bats, oh my....
I was just in PA, thought of you in MD, went hunting in Hagerstown, lots of antiques, we were so near yet so far.........
have a great weekend!

GREAT pics Chris! I am shocked that they let people throw money in the pool of water. ??? We have some great caves here in Oregon too. But I have never seen anything like the last pic you have here. That's pretty cool! Thanks for sharing :)

Janell I thought the same thing with putting money in there...tacky! BUT the silver lining is that Luray donates the cash to local charities...so the money is well "spent!" '-)

XOXO
