~ Reflections on 2009 ~

This is the time when I reflect on all that has happened good and bad this past year on the eve of a new year. Being the eternal optimist, I anticipate the coming of 2010 hoping it will herald positive changes on many fronts.

2009 was a very challenging year not only for me, but for many others I suspect. The continuing economic recession did not paint a pretty picture for me and many other full-time artists. As professional artists we create our art to make a living and survive. I was blessed and lucky that most of my art this year sold and went to good homes. I'm hopeful that 2010 will show signs of improvement on the economic front.

I was able to keep most of my 2009 new year resolutions as well. I took more chances with my art and tried different techniques. I started a sensible exercise routine that I could live with and lost 25 lbs. Being more active has given me a renewed sense of well being and balance in my life. I've also learned to say no and take more time for myself.

There were health challenges for my closest family members that was also a wake-up call to try to live a more healthful lifestyle.

I would be remiss to not mention again how heartbreaking it was for me with Michael Jackson's untimely passing. Michael's creative legacy has had a huge impact on my life and my art. I miss him dearly and suspect I always will. I'm hoping that after all the love and positive things he gave this world, he's finally at peace. One person can only endure so much pain for so long.

I'm thankful for my health, family, friends, and collectors of my art. It helps to have such a great support network. ~ THANK YOU!

~ Halloween Night & MJ Costume ~

Thanks everyone that stopped by and wished me a happy Halloween! :-)

I had a FABULOUS Halloween! I had so much fun passing out candy last night to all the lil' tricksters. All the kids said my house was the "best one."

Afterwards we went out in Baltimore to a local dance club for their annual Halloween party. My Michael Jackson costume was a BIG hit! I was worried there would be 50 other MJ's rolling around painting the town red...but I was the only MJ there, and that made the evening even more special.

Halloween 2009 now ranks in my top 5 best Halloween's!

The demons there are whirling

CK Halloween Tree ~ 2009

Hi Folks,

After much toiling around the bubbling cauldron this past weekend, my 2009 Halloween tree is finished. This years theme was a predominantly black & white color scheme. Lighting consists of 500 soft white LED, incandescent, and decorative skull lights.

Many EHAG artisan ornaments are represented on this years tree. Thanks to all the generous artist donations of ornaments. You know who you are! ~ Enjoy :-)

Michael Jackson will be laid to rest at Holly Terrace in the Grand Mausoleum at Glendale Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, CA on Thursday, September 3, 2009, at 7:00 PM PST.

David Everett did an amazing job of tweaking my original design to fit the full back page advertisement. I love how the new ad incorporates the STJ artists as well. Vacation Pictures (Part 2) ~ Luray Caverns

Welcome to the 2nd portion of my vacation @ the magical "Luray Caverns" in Virginia. WOW ~ This was by far my favorite day trip last week. I could not even wrap my head around the fact these natural wonders are thousands of years old. We were informed that the stalactite formations grow 1 inch every 100 years. The air was so pure and cool underground.

Note: The 2nd picture below shows the reflections of the above formations in a very still pool of water underneath. An interesting optical illusion in person...it appears the formations are growing up from the floor beneath. Until you realize water is there in very slight ripples.

One of the coolest places (literally) I have ever visited! Enjoy :-)
